Course of Study and Scheme of Examination:

The college is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of health sciences Bangalore & is recognized by Dental Council of India. The duration of the course is five years including one year of compulsory rotary internship. ( As per Rajiv Gandhi University of Health sciences)

Fees structure:

As prescribed by Govt. of Karnataka for unaided colleges and subjected to changes as per Govt. regulations.

Attendance:

A candidate is required to have 80% of attendance for all the classes conducted in a year for all the subjects prescribed for that year both in theory & practical / clinical.

The failed candidate shall put up a minimum of 75% attendance in failed subject.

Scheme of Examination:

  • The scheme of examination for BDS course shall be derived into 5 professional Examination viz., I BDS Examination at the end of the 1st academic year, II at the end of 2nd academic years, III BDS at the end of 3rd academic year and IV BDS 1st term examination at the end of first term 4th academic year and Part II examination at the end of the 4th academic year.
     
  • University Examinations are held twice a year commencing in the month of April & October.
     
  • The examination shall be open to a candidate who satisfies the requirement of attendance, quota of work progress and conducts as stipulated by the university.
     
  • Certificates to the above effect, should be produced from the Head of the Institution by the candidate along with the application for examination and the prescribed fees.

Internal Assessment:

Internal assessment will be based on evaluation of periodic tests, assignments, clinical presentation etc. Regular periodic tests will be conducted throughout the courses. There will be a minimum of two tests during I, II, III and final year. The average of two tests will be reduced to ten in both theory and practical and sent to the University before the university examination as per notification. Proper record of the internal assessment is maintained for all students and made available for scrutiny. The marks of scored will be displayed on the notice board by principal.

Criteria for Passing:

A candidate is declared to have passed an examination in a subject; if he/she secures 50% of marks in theory (aggregate) and 50% in practical separately, as stipulated below:

  1. For pass in theory, a candidate shall secure 50% marks in aggregate in university theory examination i.e. marks obtained in the university written examination, viva voce and internal assessment (theory) combined together.
     
  2. In the university practical / clinical examination, a candidate shall secure 50% of the university practical marks and 50% of the total marks in aggregate i.e. Practical / Clinical and internal assessment combined together.

Declaration of Class:

  • Successful candidates obtaining 75% and above shall be declared to have passed with distinction.
  • Those who obtain 65% or more are declared to have passed in First class.
  • Those who obtain 50% or more are declared to have passed.
  • Only those candidates who pass in all the subjects in the first attempt will be eligible for distinction & class.

    Candidates who have passed in any one subject need not appear again in that subject in any subsequent examination.

Field Program in Community Dentistry:

As a part of community dentistry programme, the students in the clinical years will have to attend the various dental camps/field programmes as a part of fulfilment of requirements of BDS examination to the satisfaction of the head of the department.

Internship:

Every candidate will be required to undergo one year of rotating housemanship in the same institution or any other institution after passing final BDS Examination.

Compulsory, 12 months internship of minimum 3 months in rural area in collaboration with department of preventives and social Dentistry is required. The Bachelor degree in Dental surgery will be conferred by the Rajiv Gandhi University, only on successful completion of 12 months housemanship.

Clinical Training:

Necessary clinical training is imparted in V.S. Dental Hospital located in the college premises. Every student gets ample opportunity and exposure to interact, assess examine and treat patients in different conditions. We make all efforts to improve the clinical skill through persistent supervision and practice.
